Turkmenistan-EU interparliamentary dialogue was held in Ashgabat
26.02.2025 | 02:00 |The eighth meeting of the Turkmenistan-EU interparliamentary dialogue was held in the Mejlis on Tuesday, February 25. Head of the European Parliament delegation, head of the group for cooperation with Central Asian countries Giuseppe Princi positively assessed Turkmenistan's cooperation with countries and international organizations, the policy of neutrality, as well as work on human rights, ensuring environmental protection in the context of climate change, energy security, and the creation of transport corridors.
The parties spoke in favor of regular parliamentary meetings and consultations in order to legislatively support the agreements between Turkmenistan and the EU, strengthen the legal framework for agreements and exchange experience. The role of the joint committee and parliamentary dialogue in the Turkmenistan-EU format was noted, the implementation of the National Action Plans on Human Rights and Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 was considered.
The parties discussed the promotion of the latest agreements between Turkmenistan and the European Union, improving legislative work and forming a platform for expanding Turkmenistan's ties with the EU countries, the Mejlis website reports.
On the same day, the delegation of the European Parliament headed by Giuseppina Princi paid a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, the effectiveness of Turkmenistan's positive neutrality policy was noted, which is reflected in practical actions to strengthen stability and security, unlock energy and transport potential for the benefit of sustainable development in the region and beyond.
The delegation of the European Parliament noted reforms within the country, including in the field of human rights protection, gender equality, and support for civil society organizations.
The parties discussed the state and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union both in a bilateral format and within the EU-Central Asia format, the Foreign Ministry press release said.
The program of the visit of the delegation of the European Parliament also includes meetings in the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, the diplomatic agency added.
