Oil and gas production in China exceeds 400 million tons for the first time
30.01.2025 | 13:15 |In 2024, oil and gas production in China surpassed 400 million tons of oil equivalent for the first time, marking a significant achievement for the country. This was reported by the Xinhua News Agency, citing data from the National Energy Administration of China.
Crude oil production reached 213 million tons, which is 24 million tons more than in 2018. Natural gas production totaled 246.4 billion cubic meters, with the average annual increase over the past six years exceeding 13 billion cubic meters. Key factors driving this growth include offshore oil and gas production and the use of unconventional sources such as shale oil and gas. For instance, shale oil production in 2024 increased to 6 million tons, reflecting a growth of more than 30% compared to the previous year. Additionally, shale gas production exceeded 25 billion cubic meters.
These achievements highlight China's efforts to increase its energy independence and develop new technologies in hydrocarbon extraction.
