Discussions on the format are currently underway, Nina Ivashkina, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Astrakhan Region said, at a press conference, TASS reports.
The minister noted that the success of last year's event generated great interest. This year, teams from universities in the Caspian region took part, but the format may change in 2025: the organizers are negotiating with federations of various sports to possibly attract national teams from the region.
In 2024, more than 800 students from Russia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Iran and other countries, including foreign students from Astrakhan universities, took part in the competition. The program included athletics, chess, sambo, volleyball, phygital sports and other disciplines. The overall team event was won by athletes from Kazakhstan.
The event became part of the XXVI General Assembly of the Association of Universities and Research Centers of the Caspian Littoral Countries, which strengthened its status as an important cultural and sporting event in the region.
"The Caspian Games" continue to develop, maintaining the status of a platform for international sports and educational exchange, which helps strengthen ties between the peoples of the region," the minister emphasized.
