Turkmenistan and the United States discussed strengthening cooperation in combating climate change
08.11.2024 | 05:55 |On November 7, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held talks via videoconference with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt.
The diplomats discussed the development of bilateral relations, especially in key areas such as trade, economics, energy, transport and logistics, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.
The American side expressed high praise for Turkmenistan's achievements in fulfilling international commitments to combat climate change, including since the country joined the Global Methane Commitment. Geoffrey Pyatt also noted Turkmenistan's productive cooperation with American companies Tetrotech and Deloitte in implementing climate projects.
In addition, issues related to the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29), which will be held in Baku from November 11 to 22, were discussed.
The parties agreed to continue deepening cooperation in the fight against climate change and in other areas of mutual interest.
