Chairman of the CEC of Turkmenistan held a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart
27.10.2024 | 23:50 |On October 27, Gulmyrat Myradov, Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan, held a meeting with Zainiddin Nizamkhojayev, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In the course of the dialogue the issues of preparation for the elections and the election process itself, its stages, changes and innovations in the electoral legislation were discussed. Notably, the new electoral system emphasizes gender equality, specifically increasing the share of women candidates for deputies from 30% to 40%.
Turkmenistan is actively studying the practice of election administration, paying attention to the experience of neighboring countries. The introduction of advanced methods and technologies, especially in the context of digitalization, allows the country to keep up with the times and improve its electoral processes.
In addition, it was noted that the participation of observers from election commissions of other countries and international organizations plays an important role in ensuring openness and transparency of elections. International observation is becoming an integral part of the electoral process worldwide and is seen as one of the main tasks in supporting and respecting universally recognized human rights.
The Chairpersons of the CECs of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of elections and the aspiration of both countries for democratic transformation and development.
Zainiddin Nizamkhojayev was presented with a gift edition of poems of Magtymguly, whose 300th anniversary is also being widely celebrated in Uzbekistan.
Commission members Alexander Hojayev and Gulnoza Rahimova also participated in the meeting from the Uzbek side, and Secretary-Referent of the CEC Office Hekimberdi Ovezov from the Turkmen side.
