Oriented on making people closer

Today, on the sidelines of the XVI BRICS Summit, the President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated António Guterres on United Nations Day, which is celebrated today, expressing confidence that the current meeting will give new impetus to the development of the traditional partnership.

The UN Secretary-General expressed his gratitude in return for the hospitality and warmth shown during his visit to Ashgabat in July of this year. He also extended his best wishes to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, under whose leadership the peaceful foreign policy course of sovereign Turkmenistan has been developed.

The development of multifaceted strategic cooperation with the UN is one of the priorities of our country's foreign policy. Turkmenistan fully supports the initiatives of the international community aimed at ensuring peace, security, and sustainable development under the auspices of the UN, said President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the possibilities for expanding cooperation in several priority areas, TDH reports.

Turkmenistan pursues an active policy in the international arena, maintaining effective relations with the UN and its specialized agencies in various areas. Particular attention is paid to ecological issues and the protection of the natural environment.

Recalling that our country has joined the main UN conventions on ensuring environmental security, the Head of state reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to close cooperation in this sphere.

Turkmenistan also acts as a reliable partner of the UN in Central Asia, one of the strategic regions of the world, which is experiencing dynamic development. The UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, whose activities are aimed at achieving specific common goals, is working effectively.

The most important area of cooperation is in the area of public health protection. Turkmenistan actively cooperates with the World Health Organization, and the work carried out in the country to develop mass physical training and sports, improve medical services and life support system was highly appreciated by the UN.

Noting the importance of addressing common tasks of national and global development, the Head of state reaffirmed the intention of the Turkmen side to comprehensively expand and deepen the established constructive dialogue on a long-term, mutually respectful basis.

Expressing gratitude for the proactive approach to addressing contemporary issues and building multifaceted cooperation with UN specialized agencies, the Head of the authoritative international structure stressed that Turkmenistan has been and remains an important partner of the Organization in ensuring universal peace, security, and sustainable development.
