 The Japanese Prime Minister's official visit to Kazakhstan has been postponed

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida regretfully informed Kassym-Jomart Tokayev by telephone about the forced decision to postpone the dates of his official visit to Kazakhstan, including to participate in the First Summit of the Dialogue "Central Asia + Japan".

The President of Kazakhstan expressed support for the Japanese people in connection with the earthquake that occurred in Japan the day before and expressed hope that this would not entail serious consequences.

The interlocutors discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Kazakh-Japanese relations, and also exchanged views on issues of interregional cooperation, according to the Akorda website.

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Miyazaki Prefecture in southwestern Japan on August 8. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the tremors were recorded at 4:43 p.m. local time at a depth of 30 km.

Japanese authorities also issued a tsunami warning for Kochi and Miyazaki Prefectures.
