The Day of Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation was celebrated in Ashgabat
15.03.2024 | 22:40 |The Indian Embassy in Ashgabat held an event dedicated to the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Program.
Indian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat spoke at the reception on this occasion, who spoke about the current directions of development of Turkmen-Indian relations. The diplomat assured that she would do her best to fulfill her responsible mission in Ashgabat.
Then the audience was presented with a video presentation of the ITEC program, which was initiated by the Government of India and launched in 1964. It is the flagship program of Indian development cooperation with the participation of about a thousand leading educational institutions in India annually. During this time, more than 200,000 officials from more than 160 countries have been trained under the program.
Government agencies, public and private organizations and enterprises, higher educational institutions, chambers of commerce and industry are invited to participate in the program. Grants are also allocated annually for Turkmenistan for specialists to complete internships in India in various fields.
Training is offered in accounting, auditing, banking and finance, management, computer work, advanced computing, information technology, telecommunications, business development, rural areas, English, mass communications, design, pharmaceuticals, environment and renewable energy, etc.
Turkmen ITEC graduates shared their experiences and memories of trainings and courses in India, which helped them acquire new knowledge, useful skills and valuable practices based on the rich Indian experience.
For several decades in a row, this country has shown economic growth above the global average. India has declared itself as one of the world market leaders in the field of information and financial services, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, agriculture and mechanical engineering, and confidently entered the outer space.
Today, India can export almost everything, but the state cannot yet do without importing energy resources (primarily hydrocarbons). Production of anything is growing in the country, but there is not enough energy. Therefore, one of the promising projects in which India emphasizes its interest is the construction of a gas pipeline that will be able to deliver Turkmen gas through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India – TAPI.
Nevertheless, the horizons of cooperation between Turkmenistan and India are not limited to energy alone.
As the ambassador said at the ITEC Day, answering journalists' questions, cooperation on such tracks as digitalization, information technology, smart cities, intelligent systems, etc., is now relevant, taking into account the course of the Turkmen government on innovation and the knowledge economy.
