Ashgabat is putting the finishing touches ahead of hosting the biggest annual regional energy event
23.10.2023 | 19:25 |On Wednesday, Ashgabat will host the biggest regional energy event OGT 2023 that will bring together more than 700 delegates from 46 countries. Among the delegates are more than four hundred representatives of international companies and organizations, diplomatic missions and ministries, banks and various funds, a number of foreign and Turkmen mass media will take part in the OGT 2023.
This year’s OGT slogan is “Reliable. Sustainable. Clean Energy”. The impressive list of speakers of the plenary session are the ministers and senior management of the Turkmen fuel and energy complex and key executives of the global energy companies, who will present a strategic vision for the development of this sector in the context of the global energy transition.
How are investments in the oil and gas sector combined with the green transition? Investments in the production and processing of hydrocarbons play a key role in overcoming the many manifestations of today's energy crisis: to ease pressure on consumers, bring the world to a net zero trajectory, and accelerate the post-pandemic economic recovery.
Long-term solutions for the transition to clean energy and clean fuels also require discussion and concerted action. All this necessitates an open and extensive dialogue, the platform for which is provided by the OGT 2023 in Ashgabat.
The current energy event pursues more ambitious goals than previous meetings on this issue. Its tasks are not concentrated exclusively around energy topics and cover a wide range of issues related to renewable energy sources and climate.
And all this is a single set of interrelated industrial, high-tech, environmental and climate challenges, the solution of which will be facilitated by the fact that this year the Global Climate Summit COP 28 will be held in the United Arab Emirates.
As is well known, the esteemed President of Turkmenistan has signed the roadmap to join the global methane pledge, which proves the fact that Turkmenistan is taking environmental issues very seriously. The chief leader of the Energy Transition COP 28, Saamir Elshihabi, has already confirmed his participation in the OGT 2023 and showed interest in discussing close partnership ahead of COP 28 in UAE.
The high interest in the OGT 2023 and its authority is evidenced by the participation of such high-ranking officials as the Minister of Electricity of the Republic of Iraq Zeyad Ali Fadhil, Executive Director, Low Carbon Solutions & International Growth, ADNOC Musabbeh Al Kaabi, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Sharifa Khudobahsh, President, SOCAR Rovshan Najaf, President, CNPC Hou Qijun, Deputy Chairman, Astrakhan Region Government Denis Afanasiev, and others.
The Turkmen side is represented by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Batyr Amanov, CEOs and experts of the national energy companies, the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan, as well as heads of more than two dozen companies.
The moderators also include well-known experts – Dario Liguti, Director of Sustainable Energy Division, UNECE, John MacGregor, Head, OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, Claire Godard, Head of Analytics for the Middle East Region and the East at S&P Global Commodity Insights, Ismadi Bin Ismail, General Director of PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn Bhd, Hesham Zubari, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, Dragon Oil (Holdings) Ltd.
In addition, about a dozen of IOC presidents and more than twenty vice presidents of large energy companies (SOCAR, Dragon Oil, CNPC, PETRONAS, PEL Limited, Siemens Energy, Total Energies, Baker Hughes, Schlumberger, LX International, Yug-Neftegaz Private Limited, etc.), heads and representatives of financial institutions, environmental organizations, as well as the UN and the OSCE.
The Grand Opening of the OGT EXPO-2023 will be followed by the Pre-Conference Policy Dialogue on SDG 7 – Green Energy Transition in Turkmenistan: Tools and Innovative Solutions organised jointly with the UN Resident Mission in Turkmenistan. This important event will allow all the interested delegates to hear the insights of the representatives of leading international organisations, companies and experts.
The SPE Technical Panel Discussion organised in collaboration with the Society of Petroleum Engineers will convene prominent speakers to address critical issues within the Oil and Gas sector. This session provides a comprehensive exploration of strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing carbon capture technologies, specifically tailored to the challenges and opportunities within the oil and gas industry.
The Presentation Zone of the OGT EXPO-2023 features the presentations of services and products of top players of the energy industry.
Key speeches will be delivered at the plenary session, and a wide range of issues put at the forefront of the OGT 2023 will be discussed during subsequent four sessions of the Conference. They include The future of Global Energy; Delivering the Energy Needs of Today while Investing in the Energy Systems of Tomorrow: Natural Gas and Chemical Gas Utilization, Oil and Petrochemical; Environmental Aspects of Hydrocarbon Production; Accelerating the Drive to Monetize and Diversify New Energy Resources; Technological Innovations, and the Role of Human Capital in Delivering Clean and Affordable Energy.
Long-term solutions for the transition to clean energy and clean fuels also require discussion and concerted action. All this necessitates an open and extensive dialogue, the platform for which is provided by the OGT 2023 Conference and EXPO.
