Turkmenistan initiates the creation of a Security Conference in Central Asia

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed the creation of a Security Conference in Central Asia. The head of state said this at the plenary meeting of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

In order to achieve general and comprehensive security, Turkmenistan proceeds from the need to give the activities of the UN a distinct regional context. This approach is intended to bring specificity to joint work, increase its functionality and efficiency, the President of Turkmenistan believes.

The time has come to launch an inclusive, full-format and systemic dialogue between Central Asia and the UN, and Ashgabat respectfully invites partners to its start, Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.

“In this regard, our country is taking the initiative to create, under the auspices of the UN, the format of the Security Conference in Central Asia and adjacent zones,” TDH quotes the president as saying.

The purpose of the Meeting is to develop approaches and solutions aimed at bringing together and synchronizing the efforts of the countries of Central Asia and the world community, international organizations, financial and economic institutions in ensuring sustainable, conflict-free development of this region.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his readiness to hold the first such Meeting in Ashgabat in 2024.
