Oriented on making people closer

In Turkmenistan, "speaking clubs" have begun to gain popularity, which help everyone to practice learning foreign languages. One such club called Chat&Chill has recently opened in Ashgabat.

People come to Chat&Chill to practice spoken English in a group of like-minded people. Meetings are held every Saturday from 18:30 to 20:30. The ORIENT correspondent talked with founder of the new conversation club, Enedzhan Rakhimova.

— Hello Enedzhan! Tell us about yourself, and why did you decide to create such a conversation club?

• Hello! Yes, sure! I received a bachelor's degree in sociological sciences at the International University for the Humanities and Development in Ashgabat. I speak English at a professional level, since the education at the university was in English, but before entering, I always liked to study English at school.

After graduation, I taught English in the language centers of Ashgabat, and also taught English individually. I started to think about creating a club when I began to notice that many of my students could not use what they learned in practice, in a normal live conversation. After all, in order to speak fluently in English and in any other language, you need a lot of practice and live communication.

Therefore, I came to the conclusion that it is possible to open a club in which everyone can communicate in English on free topics and thereby consolidate what they have learned in practice.

— How are your meetings going?

So far, we have only had one meeting, which we held with great interest. We discussed various topics and also played interesting educational games. One of the topics was devoted to the rules of conduct in real and virtual life. Then we played a couple of games, like "guess who I am?". Each participant in the game had to guess which famous person or character he was, answering questions from other participants.

- What is the benefit of visiting your club besides improving spoken English?

— First of all, I would like to note that any shy member of our club will be able to overcome the language barrier due to fear and embarrassment to make a mistake when speaking English. Our club is founded, first of all, on support and assistance to each other.

You can also make new acquaintances with the same people who are interested in learning English, relax and have fun with friends. I would also like to add that any participant will be able to replenish their vocabulary of English words on the go by asking other participants for a translation.

- How do you feel about newcomers in your club who have just started learning English?

— We will welcome any member in our club who wants to practice their English. Even beginners who have just started learning English will be able to visit and consolidate everything learned in practice with other participants who are one level higher. The most important thing is the desire and desire to learn English, and otherwise we will help you to speak as quickly as possible.
