06.06.2023 | 09:12 |The inclusion of population mobility issues in national plans for adaptation to climate change, as well as best practices in this area were discussed during a two-day seminar of the Country Office of the International Organization for Migration and UNDP in Turkmenistan.
The training for Turkmen specialists in the relevant field is the third of a series of seminars dedicated to adaptation to climate change. They are provided for by the UNDP project "Development of the national adaptation planning process in Turkmenistan" and the IOM project "Inclusion of interrelations between migration, environment and climate change in national plans related to climate change", implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.
A specialist from the UNDP office in Moldova shared the current practice of data collection, monitoring, reporting on climate and adaptation measures. In this context, the need to involve various stakeholders in these processes — representatives of the private sector, civil society, and local self-government bodies - was emphasized.
The process of national planning of adaptation to climate change is a long-term process, therefore, coordination of actions between the involved structures and parties is necessary for its successful implementation.
