"We hope that this tournament will be the beginning of big events, strong relationships, will help promote hockey, both professional and children's, youth, student, all hockey in all countries. When we started talking about this event, we were joined by representatives of other sports who want to hold the same tournaments in Kazan. This includes tennis, equestrian sports, and motor sports," Nail Maganov, president of the Ak Bars hockey Club and the Tatarstan Hockey Federation, said at the opening of the hockey tournament among Islamic countries on Saturday.

The first ice hockey tournament among the teams of Islamic countries and the Republic of Tatarstan takes place from January 14 to 17 in Kazan on the ice of the Tatneft Arena and the Sports Palace. 12 men's and 5 women's amateur teams take part in the competition. Hockey players from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Oman, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan will play in the men's tournament, players from Algeria, Morocco and Lebanon will play in the combined team. Tatarstan will be represented by the national team of the Ak Bars system and a team of hockey veterans of the republic.

Vice-President of the UAE Winter Sports Federation Hamel Al Kubeisi shared with journalists in Kazan his opinion that the invited hockey teams during the tournament will get a lot of experience from Ak Bars.

The gala match, which will be attended by the best players of each team, will be held on January 17 on the ice of Tatneft Arena.
