 Tajikistan to Present Concept of its Chairmanship in the CIS

The first meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives (CPPR) of the Commonwealth Member States to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth this year under the chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan will be held on January 22 at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk. It is expected that the meeting will be attended by CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev and Head of the CIS Countries Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Coordinator of the Republic of Tajikistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Affairs Akhmad Saidmurodzoda, who will present the Concept of Tajikistan's Chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2025 and the Action Plan for its implementation.

The agenda of the meeting includes summing up the results of the CPPR activities in the past year and approving the work plan for 2025. The Council members intend to discuss the draft agenda of the next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers, the progress of the Plan of Key Actions for the implementation of the Concept for the Further Development of the Commonwealth. Turkmenistan is represented in the CPPR by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Belarus Nazarguly Shagulyev.

The co-chairs will be the Russian Federation, as the former chair, and Turkmenistan, as the future chair of the CIS.

Speaking at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Moscow in October, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon called the launch of a discussion on improving the activities of the Commonwealth one of the main priorities of the country's chairmanship. According to him, Tajikistan will also work to strengthen cooperation between the CIS countries in combating security risks and threats.

Rahmon separately noted that during the republic's chairmanship of the CIS, serious attention will be paid to celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In addition, Tajikistan sees the promotion of economic, environmental, cultural and humanitarian agendas in the Commonwealth, as well as the development of parliamentary cooperation, as priorities.
