Trans-Caspian connector – an opportunity to ensure global energy security
29.03.2022 | 23:08 |The situation in the energy market today forces many countries to reconsider their views on energy security, she said, speaking at OGT-2022 director of the advisory committee of Trans Caspian Resources Natalie Costello.
Reducing dependence on pipeline gas through LNG and the use of renewable energy sources takes a lot of time. Therefore, the European Union recognized that blue fuel remains one of the main sources of energy until 2040.
Today, the EU is demonstrating a desire to diversify its natural gas purchases and has begun to take active steps in this direction. Therefore, the issue of capitalizing on the use of existing infrastructure to expand the supply on the gas market through small investments is very relevant.
The project developed by Trans Caspian Resources will make it possible to arrange the supply of Turkmen natural gas to Azerbaijan and further to the South Caucasus, Turkey and other countries that will be in need of blue fuel. At the same time, the infrastructure already operating in Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan will be the foundation for its implementation, the representative of the company said.
The Trans-Caspian connector will allow Turkmenistan to supply 10-12 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The implementation of the main part of the project, according to preliminary estimates, will take about four months and require an investment of only 400 million US dollars.
In an interview with ORIENT, Natalie Costello spoke in more detail about the benefits of the Trans-Caspian connector for Turkmenistan. She noted that, first of all, Ashgabat will receive an additional direction for the export of its resources and diversify their supplies.
The project is also aimed at minimizing harmful emissions into the atmosphere through the use of the entire resource potential of Turkmenistan in accordance with the obligations that the country assumed during the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP26), held last November in Glasgow, Britain.
In addition, Turkmenistan will strengthen the role of the Caspian region in strengthening peace and stability, will help attract new investments and ensure global energy security.
