The law on ratification of the agreement with Turkmenistan on the delimitation of the Turkmen-Kazakh state border on the Caspian Sea and the delimitation of adjacent fishing zones was signed on Wednesday by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The lower House of the Kazakh Parliament (Majilis) voted for the ratification of the agreement on the Kazakh-Turkmen border and the delimitation of adjacent sections of fishing zones in the Caspian Sea, TASS reports.

The Caspian Sea is a unique enclosed body of water with unique natural and biodiversity. Its water space equally belongs to all five countries the borders of which it washes - Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia.

On the sidelines of the conference in Avaza "The Caspian Sea – the Sea of Friendship and Accord" a "round table" was held with the participation of representatives of five coastal states and the UN. The main topic of discussion was the state of cooperation in the Caspian Sea region.

Experts and specialists from various sectors of the coastal countries of the Caspian Sea are constantly negotiating on the development and coordination of the projects of five-sided documents, and even during the outbreak of the pandemic, these meetings continued in a virtual format.

The scientific and practical conference "The Caspian Sea - the Sea of Friendship and Consent" is being held in the Avaza tourist zone, dedicated to the International Day of the Caspian Sea celebrated today.

The mechanism of regular consultations under the auspices of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs at the level of special representatives of the Caspian states is designed to provide conditions for the interaction of state bodies of the five countries.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian stressed the importance of the agreement on direct baselines, speaking at a meeting of the foreign Ministers of the Caspian littoral states on Tuesday in Ashgabat.

Moscow expects that the strategic nature of multilateral cooperation in the region will be confirmed at the Caspian Summit on June 29. This was stated to journalists on Monday by the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Yuri Ushakov, reports TASS.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed to study the possibilities of building desalination plants and supplying water from the Caspian Sea to Ashgabat.
