“One Health” in Action: Turkmenistan Strengthens Protection Against Brucellosis with FAO Experts

From October 20 to 24, 2025, a training on the prevention, diagnosis, and control of brucellosis is being held in Turkmenistan. The event is organized under the FAO project “Pandemic Preparedness and Response in Central Asia” and brings together representatives from various ministries, as well as experts from the country’s veterinary and medical services.
The training aims to improve brucellosis prevention and control measures within the regional “One Health” concept, which unites the efforts of veterinary and medical services.
The sessions are conducted by leading international FAO experts on brucellosis — Svetlana Bardenstein and Nadav Galon. They share up-to-date information on the global and regional situation of the disease and present modern approaches to animal diagnosis, control, and vaccination.
On behalf of Turkmenistan, a report was delivered by Arslan Soltanmyradov, national expert of the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan. He spoke in detail about the government’s targeted policy on animal health protection, including systematic measures for monitoring and surveillance of brucellosis.
Particular attention is given to:
• Strengthening laboratory capacity.
• Conducting systematic epizootic monitoring.
• Enhancing the qualifications of veterinary specialists.
This training represents an important step in strengthening cooperation between FAO and Turkmenistan. It contributes to the further improvement of the national system for the surveillance and prevention of zoonotic diseases (those transmitted from animals to humans) and supports the implementation of strategic goals in ensuring food security and protecting public health in the country.
