Amazon Automation: By 2033, Robots Will Take Up to 600,000 New Jobs
22.10.2025 | 18:45 |Amazon has officially announced its ambitious automation plans, which will be implemented by 2033. The company expects that during this period, up to 600,000 employee positions could be replaced by robots.
It is important to emphasize that this does not mean layoffs of current employees. Amazon predicts about a 100% increase in sales volume, which will inevitably require hiring new staff. Robots will take over the positions that would otherwise have been filled by people.
Amazon’s robotics team is working on automating 75% of all warehouse operations.
Automation brings significant economic benefits. By 2027, Amazon expects to phase out 160,000 jobs in the United States, saving up to 30 cents per item. Overall, automation measures are expected to save the company $12.6 billion between 2025 and 2027.
Amid these upcoming changes, Amazon has also begun efforts to improve its public image. The company is considering participation in community projects and has abandoned the terms “automation” and “AI.” Instead, Amazon uses softer expressions such as “advanced technologies,” and refers to robots working alongside humans as “cobots.”
