Historical Memory and Strategic Partnership
In his speech, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Turkmenistan Stanislav Chepurnoy emphasized the special significance of July 3 – the day of Minsk’s liberation from the Nazi invaders in 1944. He noted that this date is deeply revered in Belarus.
Touching upon the Turkmen-Belarusian partnership, the Ambassador especially emphasized sincere friendship, traditionally warm and trusting relations at the highest level, as well as similar approaches to the global agenda and constructive interaction at international platforms, such as the UN. Chepurnoy recalled that Belarus co-authored the UN General Assembly resolution initiated by Turkmenistan on declaring 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, as well as the third resolution on the neutrality of Turkmenistan.
The diplomat emphasized the complementarity of the economies of both countries. In the near future, meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Intergovernmental Commission on Science and Technology will be held, where prospects will be considered in detail and priorities for further practical work will be outlined.
The Ambassador also cited the successful performance of Turkmen athletes at the International Sambo Tournament in Belarus in February 2025, where they won an impressive set of medals, taking second place in the team competition and first in combat sambo. A bilateral cultural exchange program is being developed, including the resumption of the practice of Culture Days.
Development of Trade and Humanitarian Ties
On behalf of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers, Co-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Belarusian Commission on Economic Cooperation Mammetkhan Chakyev congratulated the Republic of Belarus on Independence Day. Chakyev emphasized that Belarusian products are widely represented on the Turkmen market, from food and medicine to equipment. In turn, Turkmenistan exports textiles, agricultural products, chemical and oil refining industries to Belarus. A symbol of strong cultural ties was the opening of a monument to the Belarusian poet Yanka Kupala in Ashgabat in May 2024, and more than 4 thousand citizens of Turkmenistan are studying in Belarusian universities.
A Gala Evening in a Warm Atmosphere
The official part ended with a warm welcome. The guests enjoyed a banquet where they could try traditional Belarusian treats, including the famous draniki. The festive atmosphere was complemented by the videos about Belarus, as well as performances by an ensemble of young violinists.
