Turkey is actively working to increase the number of international students, planning to bring their number to 500,000 by 2028.

Currently, about 340,000 international students are studying in Turkish universities, which puts the country in eighth place in the world in this indicator. The head of the Turkish Higher Education Council (Yükseköğretim Kurulu, YÖK) Erol Ozvar noted that to achieve this goal, it is necessary to develop educational programs and open new campuses abroad, especially in the countries of the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia. An important aspect of this strategy is the emphasis on technological disciplines, such as engineering and medicine, which meets the needs of the Turkish labor market.

In addition, the country's authorities seek to improve the quality of higher education by closing programs that do not make a significant contribution to development. This will not only attract more international students, but also increase the overall level of education in the country.
