Delegation of Turkmenistan took part in counter-terrorism conference in Kuwait City
05.11.2024 | 21:20 |The delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmet Gurbanov, took part in the ministerial session of the High-Level Conference on "Strengthening International Cooperation in the Fight against Terrorism and Creating Flexible Mechanisms for Ensuring Border Security - the Kuwait Stage of the Dushanbe Process".
The conference was held on November 4-5 in Kuwait City. The ministerial session discussed the most important issues of international counter-terrorism cooperation, as well as the effectiveness of response mechanisms to modern threats. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening professional interaction and emphasized the need for joint efforts to develop comprehensive counter-terrorism measures with the leading role of the UN.
In his speech, Akhmet Gurbanov noted that Turkmenistan, in close coordination with the UN, is taking the necessary measures and actions at the national and international levels to combat threats to peace and security, including terrorist and radical manifestations, the Foreign Ministry reports.
A parallel event on the protection of critical energy infrastructure from terrorist attacks was held on the sidelines of the conference, during which the Turkmen delegation emphasized Turkmenistan's active participation in initiatives aimed at protecting critical infrastructure and developing practical measures to ensure it.
Under-Secretary-General and Head of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Vladimir Voronkov expressed gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for cooperation with the UNOCT and full support for its work.
The Turkmen side invited the conference participants to the UNOCT event in Ashgabat, which will be held on November 11-12.
As part of the visit, there was held a meeting between the heads of departments of the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the State of Kuwait.
For reference: The mechanism of the High-Level International Counter-Terrorism Conference “Dushanbe Process” was established in 2018 and is organized jointly by the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, the Government of Tajikistan, partner countries, and international organizations. This Conference was organized outside Tajikistan for the first time.
