Oriented on making people closer

On Monday, October 21, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a regular meeting of the working group on the preparation of the Framework Program of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for Turkmenistan for 2024-2029.

A representative of the Europe Division of the IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation Emine Alic took part in the meeting via video link, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.

The participants discussed key aspects of Turkmenistan's interaction with the IAEA, paying special attention to the peaceful use of nuclear energy in such areas as medicine, agriculture, environmental protection and water resources management.

Cooperation in the field of medicine, in particular, the fight against cancer, was identified as one of the most important areas. In this regard, the IAEA ImPACT program for monitoring joint actions, implemented in Turkmenistan, was noted.

Nuclear technologies play a key role in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The IAEA has developed a strong technical expertise and experience in the implementation of nuclear medicine and radiation therapy technologies.
