President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree accepting 1,146 people as citizens of Turkmenistan and a decree granting 134 people residence permits in the country.

Citizenship is being granted to representatives of 29 nationalities, while residence permits are being issued to citizens of 6 foreign countries and representatives of 15 nationalities. This was announced at a government meeting on Friday, during which the Head of State signed the aforementioned decree and resolution in honor of the 33rd anniversary of Turkmenistan's Independence.

The ceremony for the presentation of passports and relevant documents is scheduled to take place next week at the State Migration Service building. As per tradition, representatives of international organizations and foreign media have been invited to the ceremony.

It was also noted at the Cabinet of Ministers meeting that over the years, 30,998 individuals have been granted citizenship of Turkmenistan, living in the country without citizenship from other states, while residence permits have been issued to 5,018 foreign citizens and stateless persons.

To inform the global community about Turkmenistan's positive experiences, a High-Level Regional Conference on the Eradication of Statelessness is scheduled to take place on November 8 in Ashgabat. The forum is being organized in collaboration with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, based on the initiative of the head of state and Turkmenistan's priority positions at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, as reported in the State Television and Radio news release.
