Turkmenistan is preparing a Youth Statement for COY19 in Baku
05.09.2024 | 18:45 |Turkmenistan is preparing a Youth Statement for the Youth Conference (COY19) and the 29th session of the conference of the parties (COP 29) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The first of the series of conferences dedicated to this was held in Dashoguz, on the basis of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute on September 3.
The event was organized by the government of Turkmenistan in cooperation with the office of the permanent coordinator of the UN, embassies of Azerbaijan, Great Britain and the UAE, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs. The forum brought together young people from across the northern region, providing them with a unique opportunity to discuss pressing environmental issues and consider opportunities for youth participation in the fight against climate change.
The conference participants included young men and women aged 17 to 35, young ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals, eco-activists, students, as well as representatives of UN agencies, the British Embassy and specialists from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education and Environment of Turkmenistan.
The conference was held in the format of sessions on topics including adaptation of agriculture, sustainable management of natural resources, etc. Based on the session work, each group prepared proposals for inclusion in the preliminary version of the Youth Statement of Turkmenistan, which will be adopted at the end of a series of such conferences that will be held in all regions of the country and will end in Ashgabat.
Following the meetings, a Youth Statement will be adopted expressing the wishes of the youth of Turkmenistan and reflecting their views on the UNFCCC processes, it will be presented at the COY19 Youth Conference in Baku and included in the official global position of YOUNGO at COP29.
