 New Ambassador of Somalia to Ashgabat officially takes office

On Tuesday, August 27, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova received credentials from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Somalia Fathudin Ali Muhamed.

The Speaker of the Parliament congratulated the Ambassador on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his appointment and wished him success in his work. The diplomat was familiarized with the priority areas of domestic and foreign policy of Turkmenistan, which is implementing a peace-loving strategy based on the principles of positive neutrality, equal and mutually beneficial partnership.

The parties expressed their readiness to support intergovernmental cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy, strengthen the legal basis of these relations, and exchange experience in legislative activities, the Mejlis website reports.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan also posted news about today's meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova and Somali Ambassador Fathudin Ali Mohamed (with residence in Ankara).

The parties expressed interest in strengthening bilateral ties and, within the framework of international organizations, in particular the UN and the OIC, spoke in favor of establishing regular political consultations at the level of the Foreign Ministry, the information says.

The Federal Republic of Somalia occupies most of the Somali Peninsula, known as the "Horn of Africa", in the eastern part of the continent, bordering Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya. The country's population is about 15 million people. The capital is Mogadishu.

Turkmenistan and Somalia officially established diplomatic relations on November 4, 2019. In February 2020, the first Somali ambassador to Turkmenistan was accredited.
