14-fold increase in container transit from China via the Trans-Caspian Corridor

Since the beginning of the year the volume of container transportations from China via the Trans-Caspian international transport route has increased 14 times in comparison with indicators of the same period of the last year, Rail-news.kz reports.

As the press-service of JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” informed, for the development of a multimodal transport corridor connecting China and Europe, the route's participants are working on increasing the volume of transportations, improving the service and speed of cargo delivery.

To date, the delivery time from Altynkol station to Absheron (Baku) has been reduced to nine days, to Poti/Batumi (Georgia) - to 12 days, and to Constanta (Romania) via Poti/Batumi - to 20-22 days.

The company recalled that last year, KTZ, together with the railway administrations of Azerbaijan and Georgia, established the Joint Venture Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd. The coordinating operator will strengthen the work on the development of multimodal services on the route with the provision of services on the principle of “one window” and guaranteed time and cost of delivery.

Additionally, KTZ is actively developing port and adjacent port infrastructure on the Caspian Sea with the involvement of major international logistics companies.
