 Negotiations on the development of Turkmen-Slovak cooperation were held in Bratislava

Turkmenistan and Slovakia are working on the conclusion of an intergovernmental agreement aimed at strengthening economic interaction

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Akhmed Gurbanov and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Marek Eshtok discussed specific areas of cooperation during a meeting in Bratislava on Wednesday, July 17.

“We are aware of the importance of Turkmenistan as a country of a strategically important region of Central Asia. Therefore, we would like to support and revive the political and economic dialogue, which was not enough in recent years,” Estlok said.

Currently, a draft intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation between the two states is being prepared. The Secretary of State said that Slovakia is ready to offer Turkmenistan its experience and know-how in water resources management, noting that Slovak companies are already actively cooperating in this area with other countries of Central Asia. The parties also see the potential of interaction in the food, energy spheres, industry and tourism.

In Bratislava, Akhmed Gurbanov also met with Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economics Vladimir Shimonyak, Adviser to the President Yan Kubish, Chairman of the Foreign Parliament Committee Marian Carey and Chairman of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peter Mikhok.

In the political and diplomatic context of the negotiations, the importance of regular bilateral meetings, including high-level contacts, and strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation was emphasized.

An agreement was reached to hold the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in 2025 in Bratislava, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

In addition, attention was paid to the humanitarian aspect of interstate relations, in particular, it was considered the possibility of organizing student exchanges and cross-cultural events, the department added.

A delegation of Turkmenistan led by Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmed Gurbanov visited Bratislava on July 16-17 in order to develop cooperation between the two countries.
