Blitz and rapid revealed new chess champions of Turkmenistan among boys and girls

The winners of the rapid and blitz tournaments of the Turkmen Chess Championship among boys and girls under 14, 16 and 18 years old, held in Ashgabat on February 9-10, were determined.

For the first time, the championship was held in all three currently popular chess formats at once, i.e. classical chess (with full time control), rapid (rapid chess) and blitz (lightning chess).

In the categories among boys under 16 and 18 in both tournaments, the gold medal was won by the main favorites of the tournament, schoolchildren Ilhan Charyev, Lebap, and Amanmuhammet Hommadov, Ashgabat, respectively.

Gurbanmyrat Rustemov (Lebap), who did not meet expectations in the classic tournament, won the rapid tournament for boys under 14. And the blitz tournament was again won by Ashgabat's Tahyr Iminov, who a week earlier had already won the blitz championship among boys under 12 years old.

For girls under 14, the rapid winner was two-time national champion in young age categories in previous years, Aylar Semenderova, half a point ahead of one of the main favorites of the tournament, Mahri Agamuradova, Lebap, who, nevertheless, managed to win the blitz tournament.

In the category of girls under 18, the hegemony of the Shohradova sisters continued. Leyla became the winner of the classic and rapid tournaments, and Lala won the blitz tournament.

Gulmira Seyilhanova, Lebap, won the rapid tournament in the under-16 girls category by a margin, and, well, the blitz tournament turned out to be very exciting.

The first three players scored 7 points at the same time and all the first three additional indicators turned out to be the same. Only according to the fourth additional indicator (the number of wins by black pieces), Mahrijemal Gurbangeldieva, Ashgabat, lagged behind the leaders and took 3rd place, while the first two players Mahri Aimakova, Lebap, and Oguljeren Saparova, Ahal, all indicators turned out to be equal. The fate of the gold medal had to be decided in Armageddon, where Oguljeren won her counterpart with black figures and rose to the highest step of the podium.
