09.02.2024 | 20:58 |The medals of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024, are officially presented.
Unlike the approximately 36,600 medals that were awarded after Athens in 1896, the first modern Olympic Games, the medalists of the Olympic and Paralympic Games In Paris will be awarded medals decorated in the center with a hexagonal piece of iron taken from the Eiffel Tower, the symbol of France.
The design of the awards was developed by the French jewelry house Chaumet, which worked together with a special commission of athletes.
As Tony Estange, President of the Paris 2024 Games Organizing Committee, explained, this decision was dictated by the desire to make the medals unique and special. That is why the part is fixed in the center, like a precious stone.
Why a hexagon? The French call their country the “hexagon”. This name comes from the extremely convenient geographical location of the country with beautiful landscapes and rivers, France is surrounded by mountains, seas and the ocean.
The Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024, and the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.
