The expert explained how links in a search engine can become a source of danger

Director General of the ANO Digital Platforms Arseny Shcheltsin warned that links that open upon request in the first lines of a search engine can be dangerous. Companies can use these links to collect user data, which they then use in aggressive marketing, he said. RIA Novsti reports this.

Shcheltsin explained that such resources usually provide automatic authorization through social networks. In this case, the user’s personal data declared on social networks ends up in the company’s database. This data can then be used to send spam, make advertising phone calls, or even commit fraud.

To protect yourself from social phishing, Shcheltsin recommends taking the following precautions:

• Set your social media settings to a high level of privacy.

• Do not log into other sites through your social media accounts.

• Install reliable anti-virus and anti-phishing software.

Be careful when following links in a search engine, and be attentive to your personal space on the Internet.
