How to improve sleep during fasting in Ramadan: doctor's advice
07.04.2023 | 18:12 |Throughout the Muslim world, the holy month of Ramadan continues, which implies fasting. Fasting during this period is important to take the right steps so as not to affect the quality of sleep.
Specialists of the Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar note that excessive consumption of food during Iftar in the month of Ramadan, especially fried food or foods with a high sugar content, has a negative impact on the quality of a person's sleep. Moreover, it is important to observe moderate food intake during suhur. Also, the body must receive the necessary amount of fluid, since a long fast awaits it ahead.
According to Aisha Hussain, a senior medical consultant at the clinic, changing the time of eating and its quality can rearrange the work of the body's biological clock. As a result, a person will feel mood swings, fatigue, headaches will appear.
The consultant advises you to adjust your sleep schedule by adhering to regular bedtime practices that will help you relax.
For example, you can take a warm bath before going to bed or do some light stretching exercises. It is also important to stop using electronic gadgets — phones, tablets, etc. at least 30 minutes before bedtime, and also to sleep in a cool, quiet and comfortable room.
The doctor also advised against drinking caffeinated beverages, such as coffee, tea.
You should also not forget to take a nap during the day. The maximum time of such sleep in the month of Ramadan should ideally be no more than half an hour. Then it will not interfere with a night's sleep.
