A project to implement the Global Compact on Migration has been launched in Turkmenistan

The representative office of the International Organization for Migration in Turkmenistan has launched a regional project "Assistance to the governments of Central Asian states in the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration".

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of Central Asian Governments, as well as relevant stakeholders in the region, to implement the Global Compact on Migration in accordance with its guiding principles.

The project is also intended to strengthen international cooperation on migration issues in Central Asia before the Regional Forum on the Review of the Implementation of the GCM, which will be held in 2024.

In December of 2018, the Government of Turkmenistan voted for the adoption of the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Legal Migration (GCM), which is the first ever intergovernmental UN agreement defining a common approach to the management of international migration.
