Berdimuhamedov: together we are able to counter challenges
26.10.2019 | 11:39 |Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov spoke at the 18th Sum-mit of the State and Government Heads of the Non-Aligned Movement member countries in Baku.
The President of Turkmenistan highlighted that serious changes have taken place in the world since the previous summit of the Non-Aligned Movement. New trends in the international policy, new geopolitical and geo-economic patterns require the comprehension and development of adequate approaches.
The main goal of the joint efforts is to maintain peace, stability and se-curity, and this should determine decisions on the global, regional and national levels. Despite all the threats and challenges of the time, to-gether we are able to create instruments to counter them, Berdimu-hamedov said.
He specified as the key condition for this the restoration of trust and predictability in international relations. The initiative of Turkmenistan, supported by the UN, to declare 2021 the International Year of Peace and Trust is also aimed at this.
Berdimuhamedov pointed out the fight against international terrorism and addressing the refugees’ problem, most of which come from the Non-Aligned Movement member countries to be the most important ob-jectives in ensuring global security.
The economy remains the binding foundation of partnership. In this re-gard, the President of Turkmenistan supported the strengthening of po-sitions in safeguarding the developing countries’ rights and interests, the equality of international economic relations, and the economic sov-ereignty of the peoples and states.
Berdimuhamedov drew the attention of all the debate participants to the enhancing role, under the energy security globalization conditions, building its system based on the principles of justice and equal access to energy resources.
President Berdimuhamedov also proposed his point of view on a num-ber of other areas of cooperation, emphasized the need for unity and firmness of the Movement countries in addressing issues related to the universal food security and environmental safety, and adaptation to climate change.
