 China daily: China's population has declined for the first time in 60 years

The population of China has decreased for the first time in the last 60 years, China Daily reports with reference to the report of the National Statistical Bureau of the People's Republic of China.

In 2022, the total population of the Celestial Empire amounted to 1.4118 billion people, having decreased by 850 thousand people year-on-year.

Last year, about 9.56 million newborns were registered in the country. In 2021, this figure was 10.62 million.

In turn, the fertility rate in 2022 was 6.77 births per 1,000 people compared to 7.52 in 2021. The death rate in the country last year was 7.37 per 1,000 people.
