 BelTA: Belarus approves new edition of University Admission Rules

President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has approved a new edition of the Rules for the admission of persons for general higher and special higher education, BelTA news agency reports.

According to the document, the winners of international and republican Olympiads, university competitions, graduates of the National Children's Technopark on the recommendation of the Supervisory Board, graduates of lyceums at universities, as well as persons who have passed the unified state exam in Russia, will be enrolled without entrance tests.

On an out-of-competition basis, children of military personnel, employees of internal affairs bodies who became disabled in the line of duty, pupils of military-patriotic clubs will also be admitted to universities of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Border Committee and military faculties.

According to the source, the rules are aimed at improving the objectivity of the assessment of applicants' knowledge and ensure compliance with the principle of equal opportunity to enter universities. They will also contribute to improving the selection of the most prepared and motivated applicants to obtain specialties in demand by the country's economy.

The necessary explanatory work on the adopted innovations will be carried out for applicants and their parents.

The Ministry of Education will provide a set of organizational and methodological measures to implement the provisions of the decree as soon as possible.
