President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov ordered to announce an international tender for the construction of a new bridge across the Garabogazgol Strait in the Balkan region, as well as the reconstruction of the road leading to it, the official Turkmen press writes today.
The head of state got acquainted with the state of the existing infrastructure at Garabogazgol on Tuesday as part of a working trip to the western region of the country. The new bridge, the plans for the construction of which were announced in April 2019, should become part of the Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan highway with a length of 225 kilometers.
It is expected that the new modern road will increase trade, passenger and freight traffic between Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and neighboring states. It will also significantly expand the transport and transit potential of Turkmenistan by joining the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi highway, and through it, the Ashgabat-Turkmenabad autobahn.
