After the election of the new composition of the lower house of parliament — the Majilis of Kazakhstan, the government of the country headed by Alikhan Smailov resigned, the press service of the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reports.
It was proposed to nominate a new candidate for the post of Prime Minister to the Amanat party, which won the elections held on March 19.
"The party that won the election has the right to propose a candidate for the post of prime minister to the head of state. Thus, this party will assume political responsibility, which once again confirms the formula "a strong president — an influential parliament — an accountable government"," Tokayev said, speaking at the first meeting of the parliament of the new convocation.
After consultations with the factions, the President of Kazakhstan will submit to the Parliament the candidacy of the Prime Minister and appoint him with the consent of the deputies. In turn, the head of the Government will present the candidacies of the members of the government.
According to the Constitution of Kazakhstan, the government resigns its powers before the new composition of the Majilis. The ministers will perform their duties until the formation of a new cabinet.
