Islamabad wants to accelerate the signing of a transit trade agreement with Turkmenistan


The Department of Economic Affairs of Pakistan has asked the country's Ministry of Commerce to speed up the signing of the Transit Trade Agreement (TTA) between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, Business Recorder reported, citing informed sources.
These instructions were issued during the 7th interministerial meeting, chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, to review the implementation of decisions taken during the 5th meeting of the Joint Pakistani-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission. The importance of the forum in strengthening economic ties between the two countries was emphasized at the meeting.
The urgency of signing an Agreement on Transit Trade between Pakistan and Turkmenistan was noted and the Ministry of Trade was invited to consider this issue in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and provide an updated status within 14 days. In addition, the Ministry of Transport was asked to send a reminder to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the expected response of Turkmenistan regarding the draft Agreement on Transit Transportation.
As for the establishment of the Trading House, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transport were instructed to organize a meeting with Turkmenistan and implement its creation, as agreed at the 5th meeting of the IPC. The Ministry of Transport was also instructed to inform the Department of Economic Affairs about the results of the Joint Business Council.
It was further noted that information on the TAR project is expected from Turkmenistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was instructed to deal with this issue.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs was instructed to prepare a summary of the Memorandum of Understanding on Twinning Relations between the port of Gwadar and the Port of Turkmenbashi for approval by the Cabinet of Ministers. In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was instructed to resolve the issue of a delayed direct flight with Turkmenistan.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Pakistan was also instructed to submit the minutes of the 2nd meeting of the Joint Working Group on Industrial Cooperation and propose dates for the 3rd meeting.
