Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Strengthen Trade Union Cooperation: Outcomes of the Meeting in Astana
On September 11, negotiations were held in Astana between the heads of the trade union organizations of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. Oguljennet Berdiliyeva, Chairperson of the National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan, and Satybaldy Dauletin, Head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan, discussed key issues related to protecting workers’ rights, occupational safety, social partnership, and the exchange of experience.
The main outcome of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation. The document is aimed at expanding professional ties between the organizations of the two countries and launching joint social initiatives.
As part of the visit, an international round table was also held with the participation of representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO). Experts discussed strengthening social dialogue and implementing the principles of decent work.
The parties also paid particular attention to preparations for major regional events. In November 2026, Ashgabat will host the International Forum of the Heads of Trade Unions of the Central Asian Countries and Azerbaijan, as well as an international conference dedicated to sustainable development and compliance with labour standards.
The meeting reaffirmed the traditionally friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan and laid the foundation for long-term practical cooperation.
