Turkmen and foreign scientists exchanged results of work in the field of biotechnology


An international scientific and practical conference dedicated to medicinal plants was held at the Oguz Khan Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan.

The forum on the topic “Medicinal plants: bioecology, biotechnology, bioeconomy” was held in a hybrid format on Thursday, March 14, and brought together famous scientists of the country, professors of higher educational institutions, representatives of the scientific community, as well as more than 100 experts from 13 countries. Among them are Japan, Russia, Austria, Hungary, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, China, Singapore, India, Ethiopia, etc.

The basis for the thematic content of the forum was the fundamental scientific and encyclopedic work of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov “Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan”. The agenda of the international scientific and practical conference included the development of cooperation in priority areas of specialized scientific research, the development of new medical technologies and the importance of herbal medicine in the treatment and prevention of diseases.

As part of the international scientific and practical conference, there was organized an exhibition dedicated to innovative developments and products based on local medicinal plants. The results of their activities were also presented here by specialists from the Institute of General and Applied Biology of the university and the recently created scientific and technological center “Oguz Khan”. At the same time, the exhibition was broadcast live to foreign conference delegates. Of particular interest were the specimens stored in the herbarium for more than 100 years.

The speakers touched upon such important issues as the bioecology of medicinal plants, the production of medicinal products using the capabilities of biotechnology, the study of the bioeconomic value of medicinal plants, and also provided information about their scientific activities. In their speeches, professors from the Oguz Khan University mentioned current scientific work on the isolation of nanoparticles from medicinal plants, carried out jointly with Japanese universities, and also noted the role of nanotechnology in the comprehensive study of medicinal plants and the production of medicines.

After the conclusion of the main session, the work of the conference continued in three separate sections on bioecology, biotechnology and bioeconomics of medicinal plants.
