The Turkish Ministry of Energy is exploring options for transporting Turkmen gas

Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said that the ministry is exploring alternatives for transporting natural gas from Turkmenistan to Europe through Turkey.
"Turkmen gas is an issue that has been on our agenda for many years. We are at a stage where conditions have matured. There are three options for gas delivery," Bayraktar said on March 7 at the Energy and Climate Forum in Istanbul.

"One of them is that Turkmen gas is transferred to Turkey through Iran through a swap. Another option is that he arrives in Turkey through an exchange through Iran and Azerbaijan. As an alternative, Turkmen gas could be supplied to Turkey via a pipeline passing through the Caspian Sea, which, in fact, is more durable, more stable and has a greater throughput capacity," hurriyetdailynews quotes the minister.
All these options are being considered, Bayraktar said, noting that up to 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas may initially be transferred from Turkmenistan.
Touching upon the issue of establishing a gas trade center in Turkey, the minister recalled that "he is working on a gas trading platform for the Istanbul financial center, primarily with Gazprom." "We think that we will be able to put this site into operation in a short time," he said.
Earlier this month, Turkey and Turkmenistan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the gas sector and a Declaration of Intent on cooperation in the field of hydrocarbon resources.

The documents were signed following a meeting between Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the
Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the Diplomatic Forum in Antalya.
