Afghanistan makes efforts to restart major energy transit projects

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in the Government of Afghanistan reported that efforts are being made to resume practical work on major transit and energy projects between Central Asia and South Asia through Afghanistan.
As noted, it is about the CASA-1000 projects, the TAP (Turkmenistan- Afghanistan-Pakistan) power line, the TAPI pipeline and the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TUTAP) energy project, TOLOnews reports.
This came after Matiullah Abid, a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, said that CASA-1000 and TAP are important economic projects in the energy sector.
“The CASA-1000 line project, which starts from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan and then goes to Afghanistan and Pakistan, supplies electricity. This is one of the important projects. Most of the work on it was done in Afghanistan, which can get 300 megawatts of electricity from it,” Abid said.
The former head of the Afghan energy company DABS said that 60% of the work on CASA-1000 has been completed. “As for the regional projects TAP, TUTAP, CASA and the TAPI pipeline, I must say that these projects contribute in different ways. Most of the electricity needs will be met,” Amanullah Ghalib, former head of DABS added.
However, international development assistance to Afghanistan has been suspended since the Islamic Emirate came to power, TOLOnews notes amid these announcements.
