Azerbaijan supports the transformation of the Caspian region into a major transport hub

The Caspian Sea is a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation, which is a very valuable resource that unites us. Baku attaches great importance to the interaction of our countries in the Caspian Sea, said Charge d'affaires of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Turkmenistan Nariman Orujaliyev, invited as a speaker to the international conference on the Caspian Sea, which was held on August 12 in Avaza.
In his opinion, friendly and good-neighborly relations, bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the Caspian countries are an important factor of stability and security in the Caspian Sea.
The diplomat noted that the Caspian Sea is a component of many international and regional projects. The bilateral and multilateral agreements concluded between the Caspian States in the field of transport create a good basis for turning the region into a major international transport hub with a developed infrastructure.
"Today Azerbaijan is one of the most important transport and logistics centers of Eurasia. Our country plays an important role in the development of international East-West and North-South transport corridors," Orujaliyev said, informing about the active work being carried out in the republic on the Zangezur corridor, which will become an additional route from Azerbaijan to Turkey and Europe. According to him, the construction work on the Azerbaijani territory for this project has been completed by about 70%.

"Thus, not only one Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route will pass through Azerbaijan, but also the Zangezur corridor," the diplomat stressed.
"We are seeing an annual increase in cargo transportation through the territory of Azerbaijan on the East-West and North-South routes. The volume of transit cargo going through the new international commercial sea port of Alat is increasing. The construction and commissioning of this port has become another important contribution of Azerbaijan to the development of transport and logistics infrastructure in the Caspian Sea," Nariman Orujaliyev concluded.
