Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to strengthen cooperation in oil and gas sector

Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the oil and gas and electric power sectors.
This is evidenced by the 6th paragraph of the joint statement of the heads of the three countries following the results of the first Turkmenistan-Tajikistan—Uzbekistan summit, which was held in Ashgabat on August 4.
At the high-level trilateral meeting, it was stressed that cooperation between the countries in the supply of natural gas, oil and petroleum products, as well as electricity is of particular importance.
During the summit, the heads of state agreed to hold talks at the level of heads of energy departments in the second half of 2023. They will consider the possibilities of joint activities in the electric power and oil and gas sectors, the joint statement of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan says.
It is important to note that the existing line of the Turkmenistan—China main gas pipeline runs through the territory of Uzbekistan, and the 4th line «D» under construction runs through Tajikistan.
Tajikistan has already created all the necessary infrastructure for the implementation of the project, including 42 tunnels with a total length of more than 60 km. The project itself will allow Tajikistan to attract more than $3 billion of Chinese investment.
The new line of the gas pipeline is designed to supply 30 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas per year to the southern and central part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. The length of the gas pipeline will be about 1 thousand km. It will pass through the territory of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
