The CIS observer Mission has published a statement on the elections in Turkmenistan


The CIS observer mission issued a statement on the results of monitoring the preparation and conduct of the elections of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the seventh convocation, held on March 26.
The main conclusion in the text of the document is that the elections were held on an alternative basis and at a high organizational level, were free and open; conducted in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan and meet generally recognized international standards for democratic elections.
The mission, headed by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, accredited 49 people representing Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States, the CIS Executive Committee.

"The mission carried out its activities freely and independently, guided by the legislation of Turkmenistan, documents adopted within the framework of the Commonwealth, observing the principle of non-interference in the electoral process and respecting the sovereignty of the state," the statement says, the full text of which is posted on the website of the CIS Executive Committee.
The members of the mission stated that the necessary conditions for international observation were created in the country, they carried out surveillance in all regions, Ashgabat and state that the voting took place calmly and in an organized manner, with high activity of citizens.

In order to implement the principle of transparency and openness of the electoral process, 240 polling stations in all regions of the country were equipped with webcams broadcasting the voting process on the Internet.
"The individual omissions recorded by the observers were of a technical nature and were promptly eliminated by the precinct commissions," the statement said. The members of the Mission observed the vote counting procedure and note that it took place in accordance with the electoral legislation.
