Antwerp may get closer: Turkmen ambassador met with the head of the Belgian region

Investment prospects for Belgian companies in the field of information technology implementation, digitalization, implementation of green economy projects and development in the new Turkmen city of Arkadag became one of the main topics of the meeting between Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Belgium Sapar Palvanov and Governor of Antwerp Province Cathy Beres on Monday, March 27.

The diplomat held a presentation of the city of Arkadag, which is being built from scratch, in the foothills of the Kopetdag, and spoke about its concept, according to which it will be the country's first "smart" city and with the status of "eco".
The Ambassador urged the Belgian official to explore the possibility of implementing joint projects that actively attract entrepreneurs and investors in Antwerp, homonymous administrative center of which occupies a leading position in terms of growth rates of digital communications and innovation clusters, being Europe's largest testing ground for technologies and applications for the Internet of things, a laboratory of systems that help create comfortable conditions for city residents.

Sapar Palvanov and Cathy Beres also discussed other issues of establishing business and humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and the province of Antwerp. In this context, the ambassador proposed to establish sister city relations between the port cities of Turkmenbashi and Antwerp, which is second only to the Dutch Rotterdam in terms of cargo turnover in Europe. In addition to ports, which play an important role in world trade, both cities have oil refineries and other factories.
This proposal was accepted with great interest. At the same time, it was noted that twinning can bring cities together not only economically, but also in the field of culture, education, science, tourism, etc.
