The Turkmenabat stage of the chess Grand Prix concludes
29.08.2025 | 15:55 |From August 22nd to 28th, the latest stage of the prestigious Grand Prix tournament, organized by the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, was successfully held in Turkmenabat. The competition drew 166 chess players: 100 in the open category and 66 in the women's category.
The tournament followed a 9-round Swiss system format with a time control of 90 minutes per player, plus a 30-second increment for each move from the very first one. The tournament was an international rating event, making it a significant addition to both the national and international chess calendars.
The winners in their respective categories are as follows:
Women's Category:

🥈 Aimakova Myahri – 7.5 out of 9 points
🥉 Yalkanova Jennet – 7 out of 9 points
Open Category:
🥇 Kakabayev Mergen – 7.5 out of 9 points
🥈 Halynyazov Vepaly – 7 out of 9 points
🥉 Rejepova Jahan – 7 out of 9 points
The tournament was dedicated to the memory of Shakir Khakimov, an Honored Coach who made a significant contribution to the development of chess in the Lebap velayat. His students continue to strengthen the region's chess school, carrying on their mentor's legacy with distinction.
Chess is actively developing in Turkmenistan, and the results, both domestically and internationally, confirm a steady increase in the skill level of its players. Ahead are new stages of the Grand Prix, which will take place in Dashoguz, Turkmenbashi, and Mary, where intense competition is anticipated.
