Google Photos: new AI capabilities for creative image editing
27.07.2025 | 15:15 |Google Photos has introduced innovative features that enable users to creatively transform their photo memories. Key new additions include the ability to convert photographs into short videos and to stylize images, turning them into anime, comics, sketches, or even 3D animations.
These new tools are accessible within the "Create" tab, which also houses existing functions for creating collages and working with videos.
Google Photos is one of Google's most popular consumer services, boasting over 1.5 billion users. As noted by TechCrunch, the integration of AI features not only expands the application's capabilities but also introduces a broad audience to artificial intelligence technologies. For Google, this also serves as a valuable foundation for training its own AI models.
The company emphasizes that the new AI tools are experimental. Users are encouraged to provide feedback by evaluating the AI-generated content, which will aid in further product enhancement.
The Photo to Video function, similar to those already available in Gemini and YouTube, allows for the creation of 6-second videos from photos based on Google's AI model Veo 2. As of today, it is available to Android and iOS users in the U.S. The "Remix" function for photo stylization will be rolled out to American users within the coming weeks.
Both functions will embed an invisible digital watermark, SynthID, into the created files to identify AI-generated content. The "Create" tab will become available to users in the U.S. in August, with Google planning to regularly update and refine the presented options.
