Bright threads of friendship: Tbilisi introduces Turkmen carpet weaving

The Akhundov House Gallery in Tbilisi turned into a colorful oasis, where the splendor of carpet weaving from Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan blossomed on May 23. By combining the national carpet holidays of both countries, the Embassies of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan in Georgia organized a joint exhibition demonstrating the deep historical and cultural ties between the South Caucasus and Central Asia.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Georgia Dovletmyrat Seyitmammedov, addressing the audience, emphasized that Turkmen carpet weaving is not just a craft, but an ancient art that has absorbed the soul of the people, their spiritual values, traditions and customs. He recalled that the Turkmen Carpet Festival, celebrated on the last Sunday of May, is a symbol of deep respect for this unique cultural heritage, a striking example of preserving the national heritage.

The Ambassador proudly noted that the Turkmen art of carpet weaving is included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. This exhibition is also dedicated to the Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, he stressed. The placement of carpet patterns on the state symbols of the country symbolizes the loyalty of the Turkmen to the precepts of their ancestors, the continuity of the national spirit and confidence in a bright future.
