"Turkmenfilm" will be presented at the III Bishkek International Film Festival

The III Bishkek International Film Festival will take place in the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic from June 11th to 15th, with the participation of Turkmen filmmakers. The feature film "Kitap" ("The Book"), directed by Hekim Allovov of the "Turkmenfilm" Association named after Oguzhan, will be presented in the competition program for films from Central Asian countries. The literary basis for this film is the eponymous short story by Nurmyrat Saryhanov, which explores the Turkmen people's attitude towards spiritual values through the example of Velmurat-aga, who once exchanged his nurturing female camel for a collection of poems by Magtymguly and refused to part with this family heirloom for any amount of money.

The film was previously screened at the IV Gorkut Ata International Film Festival of the Turkic World, held in Ashgabat in November 2024. This year, this cinematic work by "Turkmenfilm" was awarded a prize at the II International Film Festival "Turan" which took place from May 3rd to 6th in Izmir, Turkiye.

The Bishkek International Film Festival was first held from November 17th to 21st, 2023, and was dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Chingiz Aytmatov. It included a series of cultural events such as the Turkish Film Week, the Aytmatov Scientific and Practical Forum, a presentation of Central Asian films, and international and national competitions for feature films.
